Airport Services around Thailand

Thailand has a fair range of airports servicing international and domestic flying routes. As a country that relies quite heavily on its tourism attraction, this is to be expected.

As well as being well placed within the country in proximity to served destinations, the air fares are generally competitive and the domestic internal flights certainly have much to offer the traveler or tourist when compared against car or coach travel.

List of Thai Airports and Locality

The non-international airports do not share the same level facilities as their larger brothers.

Even so, they are well equipped to see the traveler through to the final destination in the Kingdom.

It is not fully appreciated within Thailand, that air travel is a convenient way of covering long distances without the hassle of ever-growing road traffic.

Most of them are a short drive from their advertised names and destination, and this is certainly the case with the country’s main international airport – Suvarnabhumi BKK Bangkok Airport.

International Airports Thailand

Suvarnabhumi International Airport – BKK

The main central and International Airport is situated - as you would expect – near to the capital city of Bangkok. It is well placed to serve travelers who have a connecting forward destination to another country or via domestic carriers to other airports within Thailand.

It offers good links through to the capital, by various road transport services and now also by the ultra-fast City Link train into the heart of the capital city.

Don Mueang International Airport – DMK

Bangkok’s second airport is the Don Mueang Airport and situated in the Northern area of the metropolitan area, with good road links to all parts of the city. It is well placed for road links to Northern Thailand and North East Thailand.

Its importance has been heightened with the opening of Terminal 2, which will take a little strain from the main airport, and also help prepare the country for the increased air traffic expected as the ASEAN project gains pace.

Chiang Mai International Airport – CNX

The International Airport at Chiang Mai is gaining in popularity for international and domestic flights. Chiang Mai is one of the main Northern Thailand destinations.

International passengers have a convenient alighting point for the Northern areas – rather than the somewhat lengthy journey up from Suvarnabhumi BKK Airport. It is well served for internal flights, both to the central and southern parts of Thailand.

Utapao Rayong Pattaya International Airport - UTP

U Tapao is operated as a military airport, but with increasing internal domestic traffic owing to its proximity to the industrial areas of the Eastern Seaboard of Thailand, and of course, the Thai holiday resort of Pattaya.
