Like the nearby Benjakitti Forest Park in Ratchadapisek Road, it is a peaceful way to escape the endless noise and unrelenting traffic problems in the city center.
Not only is Lumpini Park quiet and scenic, it is also a great location for photography. Imagine the amazing pictures you can get as the sun rises and sets over the Bangkok skyline.
Lumphini Park is free to enter. What's more, it's a family-friendly, clean, and well-maintained green zone - so don't hesitate to take the kids along with you for a picnic in the sunshine.
Activities at Lumphini Park
The majority of foreign tourists visit the public park at Lumpini to enjoy a stroll in the fresh air or to sit and relax in natural surroundings. Thus, walking under the tree canopies on wide pathways is ideal for a peaceful break or a spot of birdwatching.
Nonetheless, if you're a little more adventurous you can also:
- Rent a swan-shaped boat and paddle around the amazing scenery that surrounds the artificial lake.
- Practice "Tai Chi" with the experts or enjoy watching the locals do their stuff in the early hours.
- Go jogging or cycling around the dedicated tracks (very popular in the evening).
- Pump iron at the outdoor gym located near the main gates and enjoy a free, open-air fitness session.
Asian Water Monitor Lizards
One of the main attractions at Lumpini Park are the large (up to 10 feet long) water monitors that wander around. These "dragons" are in fact quite harmless to humans and considered as being "unofficial" mascots for the park.
Pro Tip: The children's playground situated at the west side of the parklands is great for families with kids. The "Smiling Sun Ground" is a zone kitted out for people with disabilities and there's usually some kind of market or cultural show hosted most weekends.
Dog-friendly Zone at Lumpini Park
Following on from the roaring success of Benjakitti Dog Park, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration is developing another dog park at Lumpini to blend Thai cultural charms with the serene vibes of Japanese gardens.
The design of the new dog center at Lumphini Park has designated areas for small and large dogs. It also has a fun exercise playground, a dog washing station, and a convenient waste disposal zone.
- Only dogs are allowed and people need to register beforehand. The registrants will issue a special dog code for your pet.
- You can't simply walk into the dog park at Lumpini. If you try, a security guard will want to see proof of your registration or check in.
- Dog walkers must carry bags and immediately scoop their dog's poop and put it in one of the designated bin facilities (e.g. at the "dog toilet" areas.

- Avoid feeding the wild animals and do not litter the park. You will find some public restrooms available but they are quite basic (e.g. take some tissues and a hand sanitizer with you).
