There are several options for catching big fish around the Eastern Seaboard, such as freshwater lakes, from a beach, or on a deep sea fishing charter.
This section is for angling enthusiasts who want to net a big monster at some lesser-known fishing spots near Pattaya and Jomtien.
Thailand is keeping up with the big game for enthusiastic fisherfolk.
The choice for rod action and deep sea tours continues to lure more anglers every year.
Sea sport fishing is now complemented with a number of freshwater fishing parks dotted around the province.
Good stocks in local lakes and pools should hook residing expats and angling holidaymakers into the action.
The holiday resort of Pattaya is better known as a place to go out hunting for girls. Even so, you can also find some untraveled waters for deep sea and game fishing charters.
You can join an organised boat trip, fish from the beach, or tackle one of the secluded fishing parks and lakes nestling in the scrubland. Prices normally include the fishing permit, equipment, and bait.
No matter whether you prefer deep sea fishing, reeling in a fresh water catfish, or netting monster predatory Barramundi, Pattaya is the best catch in Thailand.
If 'gunning' for big game from a boat is your favourite hobby, we recommend joining one of the local Pattaya fishing charters.
Thai captains and crew know where to find the heavyweights. They will also guide you on gear selection, such as rods, reels, line, hooks, and fish bait.
Record size barracudas, cobia, queen fish, sailfish, and mackerel have been caught in the murky blue waters around the Pattaya islands, using live bait such as squid and small sprats.
Usually, the best months for deep sea and game fishing are December and January - when the water temperature drops.
Some operators also take anglers to the remote areas to try and catch stingrays or sharks.
Here's the thing:
These fishes give a good fight for the price, so you should be in good shape for the match.
The waiting game for large rays and sharks will test your patience and stamina - not to mention the integrity of your casting rod and line.

Pro Tip: Some spearfishing destinations in Thailand are becoming very popular with tourists. Even so, there are less strenuous ways to fill the net.
Thailand hosts some of the world's best freshwater fishing events, especially around the outlying districts of the Bangkok Metropolis.
Some of the International Game & Fishing Association (IGFA) world records for giant siamese carp, arapaima, and mekong catfish were obtained locally.
But, you may be surprised to learn that Pattaya has its fair share of fishing park hotspots for bottom fishing and for fly fishing.
For example, inland lakes, parks, and ponds in Bang Saray, Jomtien, and Siam Country Club provide homes for monster-size snakehead, pacu, carp, catfish, and barramundi.
Put another way:
These aggressive and acrobatic fish often entertain even the most experienced anglers. Of all the sports and activities for tourists in Pattaya, fishing is one of the most relaxing and least expensive.
It is family friendly and peaceful. Most of the lakes and ponds are hidden in the natural foliage away from the bright lights and attractions of the city.

Most of the Jomtien beaches are popular with tourists and holidaymakers. Yet, life goes on as normal for the fishermen and fisherwomen who set sail from the beach.
It's easy to forget when walking about in Pattaya, that it is also home to normal Thai people going about their daily business to make ends meet.
Many will be fishing all night and return with their catch the next morning. Fishing boats dock on the beach at Jomtien, usually winched onto the sand by a tractor winch.
Then, the painstaking work of "un-netting" the catch begins. Crabs tend to be the most sought after prize.
Needless to say, with their pair of pincers and spiny legs, they become well entangled in the fine nets. It can take several minutes to free the critters without damaging the nets.
Many of the fish and seafood brought ashore are, of course, sold to the local restaurants in Jomtien. They are sought out by locals as the fishing boats land on the beach, or disposed of at one of the seafood markets in Pattaya.
