Underwater Wedding in Thailand

Do you and your partner share a common love for scuba diving? If so, we can organise your underwater wedding in Thailand.

Having a wedding ceremony underwater is truly a unique and memorable occasion. Without doubt, there will no shortage of bubbles when you 'tie the knot'.

How Do Couples Get Married Underwater?

In essence, underwater weddings follow similar procedures to topside matrimonial ceremonies - but they take place in water!

Getting married underwater doesn't appeal to everyone. It generally appeals most to divers, snorkelers, and surfers.

In most cases, the bride and groom need to wear basic scuba gear for the occasion.

So, unless you're both certified divers, you may need a discover scuba diving program to get you comfortable under water.

No specific training would be needed for couples who wear underwater helmets instead of a scuba unit. But let's be honest... the wedding photos may be a little disappointing!

A safety briefing would always precede the actual wedding ceremony. Following that, the congregation dives down together and disappears below the surface.

It is not uncommon for couples to stay standing up during an underwater wedding in Thailand. But, most couples will find it easier to be in a kneeling position (e.g. on sand) when marrying someone underwater.

Conducting an Underwater Wedding Ceremony

As with any wedding ceremony, the bride and groom will exchange their vows. Most often, you will use a written version of your vows that have been prepared on underwater diving slates.

Some couples want to hear each other say the actual words underwater. There are several ways you can achieve this, such as by using:

Note: Another section explains more about underwater communication and how to use scuba hand signals when diving.

The bride may prefer to wear a white bridal wetsuit for a wedding dress (as opposed to black neoprene attire).

Couples getting married in hot sunny climates may prefer a simple bathing suit instead. Nonetheless, you will both find that wearing a pair of scuba fins will be more appropriate than fancy shoes.

After exchanging the rings, it is customary to kiss the bride... yes while wearing a dive mask. Hence, your first kiss as a married couple may not be quite as romantic as you had planned.

But wait - there's more:

It goes without saying that you will want to get some great photos, and maybe a video, of the special day. In most cases, this will mean hiring an underwater photographer and videographer for the occasion.

Most underwater weddings in Thailand end with a festive reception on dry land, such as a beach, or on a decorated boat. Doing so means more of the bride and groom's guests can join in the event.
